December 3: Draw Near to the Savior
“Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. – Hebrews 13: 20-21”
My heart is blessed upon knowing that Jesus longs to see me in His presence and that my drawing into Him gives Him delight. I am reassured by John Piper’s words that no matter in what state I am, regardless of my feelings, Jesus wants me and cares about me. I am glad that because of Jesus’ birth, I can now come before God’s holy presence — purified, sanctified, made whole again.
How many times have I neglected to come before Jesus? How many times have I intentionally held back, guilty yet proud and unrepentant? Oh, what a joy to know that God insistently and consistently bids me to draw near to Him.
“Is it not a wonderful thing this Advent season to know that God bids us come? That this great, holy God of righteousness and wrath says, “Draw near to me through my Son, your High Priest. Draw near to me. Draw near to me”?
